If personnel take pyridostigmine in advance of exposure, soman will be prevented from binding to a significant percentage of available synaptic AChE because the AChE binding sites will be transiently occupied by pyridostigmine, and so irreversible soman aging (formation of a covalent bond) to the enzyme cannot take place
